Common applications of Laser:

1. Gum Depigmentation

Purpose: Removes excess melanin causing dark patches for an even pink gum appearance.

Process: A laser—often diode, CO₂, or Erbium—is used to selectively vaporize pigmented gum tissue.

Recovery: Usually completes in a single session (20–45 min), heals in a few days, with low risk of repigmentation.

2. White Patch Removal (Oral Lesion Ablation)

Purpose: Eliminates benign soft-tissue lesions (e.g. leukoplakia, fibroma) for diagnosis or cosmetic reasons.

Process: Laser ablates the lesion, sealing vessels as it cuts—no scalpels or stitches needed.

Recovery: Minimal discomfort and swelling; tissue regenerates quickly in a few days.

 

3. Tongue-Tie (Lingual Frenectomy)

Purpose: Releases a tight band under the tongue (ankyloglossia) to improve feeding, speech, and tongue mobility.

Process: A CO₂ or diode laser severs the lingual frenulum with precise cutting and instant cauterization.

Recovery: Quick (few days); often with no anaesthesia in infants; low bleeding and fast healing.

 

4. Lip-Tie (Labial Frenectomy)

Purpose: Removes restrictive tissue between lip and gum (lip-tie) to fix gaps, improve breastfeeding, aid orthodontics, or stabilize dentures.

Process: Laser cuts the labial frenulum cleanly, eliminating tension on gums or teeth.

Recovery: Fast healing with minimal bleeding and high precision.
